How Long Can We Surrender Before the War is Lost?
20070425012100
Nero fiddled while Rome burned leaving us an appropriate illustration for the actions of the United States Congress. We are a country at war with Islamic extremists who would like nothing better than to wipe us off the planet. While the brave men and women of the United States military continue to carry out their duty with honor, courage and dignity congress continues to fiddle over fundiing the war.
Can We Please Just Shut Up and Mourn?
20070417121900
Virginia Tech University has become the site of the worst shooting in United States history. I can't begin to process the pain, emotional trauma, and desparate reactions that are pouring out of parents whose world has been rocked beyond comprehension. The shear numbers are mind-numbing....thirty-three people are dead and at least twenty-six are injured with four fighting for their lives. What should our reaction be? Right now, we should all just shut up and mourn.
Mary Winkler: Villian or Victim?
20070417121800
The murder trial of Mary Winkler, an event sure to become a media sensation, began last Thursday in Selmer, Tennessee. The defendant is accused of shooting her husband, Matthew Winkler, as he lay on the couple's bed in their bedroom. His body was discovered on March 22, 2006 and Mary Winkler was taken into custody one day later about 340 miles away on the Alabama coast. The question for the jury will be is Mary Winkler the villian or the victim?
Has Valor Become a Casualty of War?
20070406015600
I looked up valor in the dictionary and found the official definition to be quite interesting. According to dictionary.com, valor is a special "boldness or determination in facing great danger, especially in battle; heroic courage, bravery, also especially British valour. That's right....apparently the British have their own distinct spelling or the word (valour) and a special understanding of its meaning. So how can it be possible that 15 British marines were taken captive without firing a shot?
A Socialist Accuses the White House of Social Darwinism
20070406013100
The three major Democrat candidates for President shared the stage recently before the Communications Workers of America. All three shared their vision for an America where a huge socialist government becomes a knight on a white horse that rides into the lives of individuals, rescuing them from the curse of capitalism.
Can Our Culture Survive the Death of Morality?
20070328112200
What would our cutlure look like if we lost any sense of a shared understanding of morality? We may soon find out since recent high profile events involving the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff expressing his opinion and a mom who couldn't bring herself to condemn immoral behavior seem to indicate we have already relegated morality to the closet of politcally incorrect belief.
Raising Hope from the Rubble of Despair
20070309012800
If you are in search of signs of hope in a world that seems to be spinning out of control you need to take a look at the Baptist Crossroads Project in New Orleans. Partnering with the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention and Habitat for Humanity, First Baptist New Orleans has organized an army of mostly college students to raise homes of hope out of the rubble left behind by Katrina. What is happening through this project is nothing short of a miracle.
The Sinking of the Jesus Family Tomb Theory
20070302011500
Before the Discovery Channel decided to air his "mockumentary" about the startling news that the actual tomb of Jesus (complete with His remains) has been discovered, James Cameron was best known for his role as director of the blockbuster movie Titanic. The Tomb of Jesus is a figment of Cameron's imagination which he hopes to pass off as a documentary. But close examination of Cameron and Simcha Jacobovici's tale of the Jesus family tomb discovery has more holes than the real Titanic after it struck the iceberg.
HPV Vaccination Should Not Be Manditory
20070223015100
Merck Pharmaceutical has been very busy. They have been lobbying legislatures in all fifty states pushing Gardasil which is the only vaccine known to prevent women from contracting human papillomavirus or HPV. Currently, 20 states are considering legislation that would, in one way or another, force girls as young as ten to be vaccinated or they will not be able to attend school. Why would the government believe a mandate is necessary to motivate parents to take an action that might save their daughters lives?
America's Calling William Wilberforce
20070219015600
The United States Congress is clearly on a path to end the Iraq war. Please notice I said they are on a path to "end" not "win" the war. The steady anti-war drumbeat continues to pound out its incessant sound even as Mitch McConnell does all he can in the Senate to silence the sound. In the House, a group of 17 Republicans joined the new Democrat majority minus 2 to condemn the President's plan to reinforce the existing troops in Iraq and begin the execution of a new plan to secure Baghdad.
